Time to “Kiss the Rock”!

Tomorrow- Friday July 9th in Silverton, Colorado, crazy ass runners will toe the line for a chance to “kiss the rock”. The Har drock 100 needs to introduction- here is what the Hardrock site says: The Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run is an ultramarathon of 100.5 miles in length, plus 33,992 feet of climb and 33,992 feet of descent for a total elevation change of 67,984 feet, at an average elevation of over 11,000 feet. The race is held on a loop course on 4WD roads, dirt trails, and cross country in Southern Colorado’s San Juan Range, USA.

WOW! Now that’s tough. We want to send some good vibes to all who are taking on the San Juans. Darcy Africa and Scott Jaime will be representing the team down in Silverton and we wish both of them good luck in their adventure. Both are serious threats to take home the crown. Go get em Scott and Darcy!

Western States 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen, and the rest of the runners out there. The highly anticipated Western States 2010 is near-very near. Blogs have been overloaded with posts and comments. Polls and odds have been done but in hours Western States will be in full swing. Loads of talent on both the men’s and women’s side and the excitement is only out done by the World Cup. Here at Pearl Izumi-Smith we want to wish everyone the race of their dreams. Many have trained for years for this one day(+). Remember to have fun, thank the volunteers and enjoy the ride.

A special good luck to Nick Clark, Nick Lewis and Josh Brimhall. Good luck fellas! By the way- what ya gonna wear?????

For those up front- don’t forget about the $2000. Could be a nice little addition to the pocket.

Lot-o-stuff in the news

Well, we are a little late reporting this but the Pocatello 50 was CRAZY! Race reports all over the web. It was cancelled at the 50k due to some horrible weather conditions. Our very own Scott Jaime (his report HERE) was in the lead when the race was called with Joe G and Luke N not too far behind. Heading into Scout Mountain this looked like a broken CR in theworks. Kudos to Jared Campbell and Ryan McDermott for calling the race. Here is what the RD’s had to say:

The 2010 race was cancelled during the event (we officially cut it off at Mink Creek, mile 32) due to horrible weather and consequently dangerous conditions at the higher elevations. The second to last thing that a race director wants to do is cancel their race while it’s in progress. The last thing that a race director wants to do is attend funeral services for runner(s) who perished while on their course, a scenario that was all too possible on Saturday. We’ve both run in very bad conditions before, have significant experience in the mountains, and because of this know the decision to pull the plug was the right one. Given how bad it was on the first two legs of the course, the final 20 miles would have been complete survival mode for even the most prepared and fit runners.

Other news- Darcy Africa got into Hardrock today and that puts Scott Jaime at the #1 seed on the waitlist. Here come the San Juans.

This weekend we have Darcy running the Dirty Thirty 50k in in Black Hawk, Colorado and Nick Clark will continue his tear at the Pilot Hill 25k- the oldest foot race in Wyoming.

So, we have all been there. During training or in a race when you just wanted to stop. You didn’t feel like you could go on. Maybe you want to cross that finish line so bad but not sure you can get there. On a training run and you just don’t feel the “mojo”. Going for the PR, CR or age group place. They are 2 different situations- or are they?

We wanna know- what makes you keep going? Why do you push your mind and body to the point of such pain? Why not stop? Tell us what drives you, what motivates you or what pushes you. Leave a comment- we really wanna know!

Zane Grey on tap for this weekend

There is a sick field of runners at Zane Grey this weekend and our very own Scott Jaime will test his skillz in the desert. We have been assured the course is well marked and Scott has done his homework. Look for some quick times and the dust to fly!

Big weekend on tap for Team Pearl Izumi-Smith!

Down in Fruita, Colorado the dust will fly when Darcy Africa and Nick Clark hit the trail for the Spring Desert 50- a favorite for many.

Out in Lake Hughes, California Nick Lewis returns to trail at the Leona Divide 50 which promises to be a good time on the PCT.

Who’s racing this weekend and where?

This weekend Scott and Josh are back at it.

Josh is headed to the Santa Rita Mountains in Sonita, AZ for the Old Pueblo 50. Coming off a great time at thePemberton 50k, Josh is primed and ready for Old Pueblo.

Scott is on his way to New York for a USA Track and Field 50 kilometer Road Championship Race- the Caumsett 50k. Long Island will be witness to some pretty fast athletes this Sunday.

2010 Team Pearl Izumi-Smith Summit

This Thursday February 25th, the Team PearlIzumi-Smith athletes will gather in Louisville, Colorado for the annual Team Summit. Pearl Izumi Headquarters will be rockin for a couple days of product testing, gear feedback, sponsors presentations, running, spirits, design review and the Team “Balls of Fury” table tennis competition.

We all would like to thank Geoff, Kody, Bob, Mike and countless others at Pearl Izumi for making this happen. It will indeed be an eventful couple days in Colorado. We just hope not too much of it ends up on YouTube!

Look for pictures, video and reviews from the summit in the coming weeks.

We have a update in regards to the team in 2010. The deadline in this Sunday November 15th- get em in!! People have asked what they should expect from Team Pearl Izumi-Smith…great question. Besides having the opportunity to be apart of a group of amazing athletes and sponsors, you will also receive:

It’s hard to believe but 2010 is right around the corner. We have been receiving a lot of emails and interest in regards to the 2010 team. I hope this makes it a little easier and answers a few questions.
