14. Favorite Quote:
“One final paragraph of advice: Do not burn yourself out. Be as I am-a reluctant enthusiast… a part time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it is still there. So get out there and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains. Run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards.”
-Edward Abbey
15. Weekly mileage: Off-season: 60-70. In-season: 120+
16. Most memorable race performance: That’s a tough one…either the Leadville 100 or leading my college team to win regionals in a tiebreaker my senior year.
17. Favorite food: Homemade pizza and sweet potato fries.
18. Favorite Race: Still working on that one…Leadville was pretty scenic, but I feel like if I ever get into Hardrock that will change.
19. I can’t hit the trails without my: Shorts and shoes? Usually that’s about all I have with me.
20. Role Models: Billy Simpson. His level of intensity and stubbornness is what I think makes him so successful. The dude started AND finished his forth Hardrock with a broken ankle…no wonder he has five HR buckles. They should change the logo and make it a mug shot of him.
21. Best running advice you were given: “Make your easy runs hard and your hard runs harder.” –Dave Wenzel, one of my high school coaches
22. Anything else someone may want to know about you: I wear kids clothes.
