Time for “THE ROCK”- Hardrock 2009

One of the most feared ultras in the world is here. Who will be first to “kiss the rock”?

Hardrock is 33,000 feet of elevation gain, average elevation is 11,186 feet and takes on Handies Peak at 14,00 feet. Runners come to the San Juan’s every year to take part in one of the most scenic courses you will find. With all the beauty that surrounds the race, there is the other side as well. Pain, heartache, disappointment and  fear. Make no mistake- Hardrock doesn’t care who you are or how hard you have trained. Many athletes have come here only to be smacked in the face and sent home. This year will be no different. Athletes from all over the world come to Silverton with different goals. Some have dreams of being first to “kiss the rock”, some look for a specific time, some look for a finish and yes some just look to get out alive. No matter what your goal, what your time or even if you finish or not- toeing the line here takes GUTS.

After finishing second last year (29:50.53)  to Kyle Skaggs (23:23.30), Scott Jaime is back and hungrier than ever. He calls Hardrock “my superbowl”. Good Luck Fast Eddy! Enjoy the ride.

To all the other athletes GOOD LUCK and don’t forget to take a moment and take in your surroundings. And whatever you do- enjoy that KISS!
